Lowen Ashleigh is a struggling writer on the brink of financial ruin when she accepts the job offer of a lifetime. Jeremy Crawford, husband of bestselling author Verity Crawford, has hired Lowen to complete the remaining books in a successful series his injured wife is unable to finish.

Lowen arrives at the Crawford home, ready to sort through years of Verity's notes and outlines, hoping to find enough material to get her started. What Lowen doesn't expect to uncover in the chaotic office is an unfinished autobiography Verity never intended for anyone to read. Page after page of bone-chilling admissions, including Verity's recollection of what really happened the day her daughter died.

Lowen decides to keep the manuscript hidden from Jeremy, knowing its contents would devastate the already grieving father. But as Lowen's feelings for Jeremy begin to intensify, she recognizes all the ways she could benefit if he were to read his wife's words. After all, no matter how devoted Jeremy is to his injured wife, a truth this horrifying would make it impossible for him to continue to love her.

A standalone romantic thriller from #1 New York Times bestselling author Colleen Hoover.

i’m not even sure what i just read, all i know is it was terrible.

Lowen, the main character, is supposed to keep up verity’s series because she was in a car crash and unable to continue. When Lowen gets there, she starts being a weirdo creep, flirting with the husband and imagining all the ways she can be with him. She thinks their 5 year old son is an asshole and dangerous, she says she doesn’t trust the child a couple times (this was so weird to me).

Lowen finds an autobiography written by verity, and despite never speaking to the woman, starts believing every last thing she wrote as fact. lowen thinks verity is pretending to be brain dead, starts throwing things at her and whispering nasty things in her ear like she’s going to fuck her husband in her bed. And then she continues to sleep with the husband that night.

Half of the book reads like some cheesy, poorly written smut. Almost every entry in the autobiography, and then Lowen’s life, detailed pointless graphic sex scenes for absolutely no reason.

The twist wasn’t great, and the ending blew. I read the version with an added epilogue and it made the book even more stupid to me.

Turns out, Verity was the only sane person in the entire story. She wrote her autobiography as a writing exercise to get in a villain mindset. Her beloved husband ends up trying to murder her twice (he drove her into a tree), and when this didn’t work, he pretended she got into an accident. He then pretends to be shocked when Lowen shows him the autobiography, revealing his daughter died “at the hands of” verity, which was later revealed to all be just an exercise. He takes this excuse to choke Verity and murder her with Lowen giving him ideas and collaborating his story.

If this wasn’t stupid enough, Lowen ends up with the husband and has his BABY! After she knows he’s a murderer! They move away to have some privacy and cut everyone from their lives off. They run into Verity’s friend at the beach a year later, and what does the husband do? Murders her right then and there! Absolutely what?? Everyone is so unhinged for no reason

This book is crazy in all the worst ways. Idk how it got made into a movie and the ending did not satisfy even a little

Before one plans to read this, there is a lot of sexual content in this book despite its primary genre not being erotica, so please keep this in mind before you read it.

The book is about Lowen, a struggling writer who is hired to work as a co-author for the renowned author Verity crawford, who is currently bedridden and recovering from an accident. As Lowen reads the previous books by Verity, she stumbles across her unpublished autobiography which leads us to the book's primary genre: psychological thriller. The book was alright with alot of dark content, sometimes getting overwhelming to the extent of me dropping it. However, this book's climax was argubly the best climax I have read so far, which resulted in me flipping this book's rating altogether. My reason for not a higher rating would be too much sexual material, which at times felt unnecessary, and Lowen and Jeremy felt very weak and cliche'd characters.

Both go hand on hand because Lowen's past and major personality is never used and shown and most of her role in the film is just her crushing on Jeremy and having sex; alongside reading Verity's manuscripts. I'd have been much more pleased had her role been longer especially post climax. Lastly,I would've been happier if the sexual material was reduced because erotica/smut is not this book's primary genre and a good chunk feels abit unnecessary. Nobody likes a very good plot and an extremely good climax getting washed away by fillers, especially by sexual material, which makes me difficult to recommend this book.

I couldn’t put this down! I started it, just one chapter, and couldn’t stop! It was a “just one more chapter” type of book. The twist was good! I would definitely recommend. I would highly suggest looking up the trigger warnings. There were some parts that were hard to read for that reason. But still very good!

no words can explain what the last pages just did to me...

Open ended interpretation is frustrating but I guess that’s the point to leave the reader ruminating on what they think happened.

⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4/5 Verity was such a gripping and unsettling read. I started it yesterday and somehow finished it today — that alone says a lot about how addictive this book was. I loved the atmosphere, the psychological tension, and especially the way the story keeps making you question what is real and what isn’t. The writing pulled me in so easily, and there were so many moments where I just needed to keep reading because I had to know what would happen next. I also really enjoyed how the relationships were portrayed, especially the darker and more intimate aspects. The book definitely isn’t afraid to go into uncomfortable territory. My only reason for giving it 4 stars is that I felt something was missing in the character development. There was so much detail given to certain aspects of the characters’ lives, but I wanted more depth and a stronger sense of who these people were beyond the central story. Still, this was incredibly entertaining, disturbing, and addictive. And the ending is definitely the kind that makes you close the book and immediately want to discuss it with someone. A very addictive psychological thriller that left me questioning everything.

Creepy, mind-boggling, sexy. Will take me a while to get over this one.

Woah.... So finished this book and I honestly don’t know how quickly it got finished, which itself shows the beauty of this thing.

I’m not gonna lie, it is so wonderfully written and well organized that it takes the reader experience to the next level. I was literally stuck chapter by chapter like I had nothing else to do in my life and just wanted to know more about Verity’s life.

And the story just keeps moving towards the peak throughout the whole novel, and that last letter of Verity was absolutely cinema. Pure peak. I liked this book so much. I think I’m loving women writers more, like the way they describe men in their novels hehehe.....

Bonne intrigue, livre captivant avec une ambiance angoissante, mais on voit un peu venir la fin

An easy read, but a warning for the younger and/or more conservative audiences: nearly half the book talks about sex explicitly. So be warned. The story revolves around Lowen, an author who is tasked with completing a popular novel series on behalf of the original author, Verity, who is now essentially brain-dead. Lowen temporarily resides in Verity's house with her attractive and kind husband (#WattpadMoment) and their young son. The narrative alternates between Lowen's perspective and Verity's supposed Autobiography manuscript. I found myself eagerly rushing through the book to uncover the truth. What happened to whom? The plot twists in the book were initially well-executed until it wasn't. What do I mean? You could see the ultimate twist coming chapters before you reach it, and yet, it wasn't used to its full potential. It was short-lived. However, the ending of the book is interesting and thought-provoking. It's not often I read a book that leaves me contemplating which version of the truth to believe. It's the type of ending that will be fun and engaging to discuss with others. 3.5 out of 5

“What you read will taste so bad at times, you’ll want to spit it out, but you’ll swallow these words and they will become part of you, part of your gut, and you will hurt because of them.”

I’m still so confused on how I feel with this book, at first I thought it was just gonna be about lowen and and Jermey and then we find out it’s a much deeper sense. The book frustrated me in the middle because it made me hate verity thinking she was evil but then when we get to the end that’s when it got confusing, I was so set on the fact that I didn’t like the book until the last 3 chapters, everything flipped it wasn’t Hoovers regular love triangle mafia kind of vibe it was a thriller and it makes you realize how much of a story you miss when in someone else’s perspective, this book was truly insane and I cannot wait for the movie.

what did i just read?? this type of Colleen's writing is new to me. i think that maybe this is also her first book full of mystery to unfold. it's so horrific that even while reading, i got chills. it's just like watching a horror movie while reading this.

every chapter wants me to read another chapter because of how intriguing it was. i was so shocked in the plot twists and even felt bad for verity and if she was in real life, i would even be amazed on how good of a writer she is. an applause for colleen for her creative imagination to even make this character. are writers really that dangerous? jk

it is also the first time again that i am reading a detailed smut scene. this is also why i presented a beautiful picture of jeremy in mind (i have a love-hate relationship with him). alright, lowen, you're winning!

Loved this book. It made my heart pound like i was watching real drama in front of me. The ending was dark, but that's what makes this book even cooler.
