Though the retelling is short, coming in just over one hundred pages, it's densely woven. To fully understand all of its nuances I'd have to do a couple more read-throughs and quite possibly annotate as I went.

What a fantastic book. 

Antigone is one of my favorite greek plays of all time. I love the heartbreaking story, the doomed characters, and the DRAMA. I was so excited to see where she took this story and I was very pleasantly surprised.

The futuristic aspect or twist she added was super fun and interesting. And her writing style was just exquisite. She really knew how to gut-punch you with a sentence, and it’s crazy how in such a short read, she had me hooked from the first chapter.

She added her own flare while keeping the true heart of the story and it was just spectacular to read. It was too short, of course. I could have easily read a 300 page book but I can appreciate the format she chose. 

Keeping Veronica Roth on my radar from here on out.

"Doomed from the start, all of us". The end is in the beginning, in this case, right on the front cover. I can't think of a better way to sum up this beautiful short story. Of course it's doomed, it is the story of Antigone, made into a dystopian world. If I were to highlight every phrase I loved in this story, it would essentially be the entire thing. Beautiful, well written, and terrible sad. Doomed from the start.
