When I think of Vi Keeland, I think of hot and sexy alpha males paired with strong females. As someone who reads young adult, new adult and adult books, I was beyond excited to learn she was branching out to write a young adult novel. I couldn't wait to read it. It's refreshing to know that Vi's writing talents (and those of Dylan Scott) extend far beyond steamy new adult. 

Left Behind was a beautiful story. It was full of feels and it pulled all kinds of emotions out of me. My heart absolutely ached for both Nikki and Zack. They were too young to deal with all that life had thrown each of their way. Nikki was so lost. But, she was still so strong. Her life had been through a major upheaval but she handled everything with maturity far beyond her age. Zack's story broke my heart, too, but in another way. I felt bad for the amount of guilt he carried with him, and I understood it, but it wasn't until he started trying to get back out there that I really found myself rooting for him. 

Something magical happened when Nikki and Zack met. Of course, I can't get too much into it because of spoilers, but their pairing was powerful. It was like they had each found the connection they had been missing for so long, in each other. They were an easy couple to cheer for and I found myself completely invested in their story from the start. Hence the emotions and tears as I read the story. 

Now, I have to be honest here and say that I guessed the majority of what some might have considered to be twists or reveals before they happened. I don't know that they were meant to come as huge surprises, or if these moments were just smaller parts of the overall story, but none of them were particularly shocking to me. So yes, some might consider the book predictable, but when the writing is this good and the story this gorgeous, I don't care how predictable it might be. 

I sincerely hope this isn't Vi's last young adult book and that it's not the last time she works with Dylan, either. I'll definitely be on the lookout from more from both of them. You know what would make a great start? A new adult follow-up featuring the characters from this book. I feel like there could be more story here, particularly with some of the secondary characters (*cough* Keller and Ashley *cough*).
