I had to have this book the moment that I saw it was about a female spy during the second World War. Given the fact that for some reason I never really thought that anyone would need female spies during WWII (I have no clue why, it makes perfect sense that they would), I was intrigued by the possibilities of this book.

The best thing about this book is that there isn’t a slow start at all – you are immediately placed in the middle of everything. There’s no “My name is so-and-so, and I’m this old and I did this with my life”. From the very beginning, this book is almost entirely action. Amy McAuley did a fantastic job, her writing is beautiful and her characterization is even better. I grew to love all of the characters, especially Adele (because she will never be a Betty to me) and Denise. The romance was perfect, it wasn’t the main focus of the book, which was nice, but it wasn’t completely in the background, either.

I’m not giving this book 5 stars because it wasn’t something I was completely and utterly in love with. It was a very good book, and I’m glad I read it, but it doesn’t go on my favorites shelf. (Yes, I do have a shelf on my bookcase reserved for just my favorite books.) I’m not about to go out and dance in the street and sing praises to this book, I’m just going to sit quietly and enjoy it and recommend it to my friends.
