Walt Whitman

Michele Ferri

Feuilles d'herbe

“I am the poet of the body, and I am the poet of the soul.

The pleasures of heaven are with me, and the pains of hell are with me,

The first I graft and increase upon myself,

The latter I translate into a new tongue.”

Leaves of Grass (Collins Classics)

Still bad at reading poetry but I am glad I did it. I liked the general sentiment, the general engagement with people divided by gender, race, class as equals.

Leaves of Grass

I had to return this one to the library before I could finish it, so I got half-way through. I'm torn between giving it 3 or 4 stars. On one hand, I appreciate the beauty of this very long poem and kind of want to finish it. On the other hand, however, I suspect it will just be another 200 pages of repetitive verses singing the joys and wonders of the world. Which I appreciate, and yet... I got the point 100 pages ago. So I don't know. Was it worth it? Absolutely. Did it need to be this long? Probably not.

As in life, if you can get past the monotonous and learn to appreciate it as much as the occasional gem, you will love it beyond belief

Hojas de hierba

Si bien hay poemas que son extensos y descriptivos de principio a fin de las cosas más mundanas que se puedan encontrar, Walt tenía una manera especial de demostrar lo profundo que analizaba cada una de ellas.
