The finale to The Oremere Chronicles does not disappoint! It’s full of non-stop action, character building moments, even more plot twists, and an incredibly satisfying ending. This is truly one of my favorite fantasy series and I am a little bit sad to see it all end. I just really love this world and all the characters and in many ways, I did feel like I had embarked on this journey with them.

The writing remains tight and descriptive. In many instances, I felt like I was seeing a movie in my mind due to how vivid the writing was. It really brought the scenes to life and it made reading all the action scenes and character moments even better. I won’t spoil what happens in the book, but I love how there’s so much emotional weight and impact in each scene. You could really feel the relationships between these characters how they’ve built up through the course of the past three books.

The plot follows Bleak and her newfound friends and allies as they try to find a way to stop Ines- the priestess turned self-proclaimed Queen of Oremere. This is especially difficult as Ines, a powerful Ashai who can collect powers- has declared herself essentially a living goddess and amasses cult-like followers. In the face of such a formidable enemy, it would be a struggle to win the war.

The stakes are higher than ever in The Oremere Chronicles due to new developments and the events of Reign of Mist. It gets twistier, darker, and keep you glued to every page. Bleak grows even more as a character in this book and I love seeing her journey from an alcoholic kid to a heroine. Bleak really is my favorite character and seeing her development sometimes makes me feel like a proud mother. Commander Swinton, Dash, Henri, Sahara, and the others also develop a lot throughout the course of the book. Betrayal and heartbreak abounds among their ranks, but they had to keep it together for the sake of winning the war.

The book also expounds the world-building even more with the introduction of the lisioks, a mysterious nymph-like race who inhabited a region of Oremere. I like that there’s kind of a sense of mystery surrounding them and what little was told about them really made me curious.

Last thing that I really liked about this book is Ines. Throughout the series, Ines has been kind of really mysterious and that mystique is a huge part of why she’s such an effective villain. In this book, we see her motivations and why she became the way she is. In a way, we see her kind of humanized, but humanized in a way that her actions aren’t excused. After all, being hurt doesn’t give you a license to hurt.

Overall, I highly recommend the entire series. It’s a trilogy and fast-paced and compelling enough that you can probably read through it in a single weekend. Trust me- it’s really worth reading and has some great character developments, relationships, and fantastic world-building.
