Great Fantasy book, but it took a while to get into the story. Branwen is a princess but she has never really had many fancy things or acted much like a princess. She loves to hunt and spend as much time as she can outdoors. Then one day her parents long-time enemies attack a nearby farm, Branwen and her brother are out hunting and hear the attack. They run to help and in the process her brother is killed. Branwen is the only heir left to her kingdom and they know that war is coming. Her parents decide that it is time she marries the man she has been betrothed to for many years but has only meet once when she was very young. She is sent away to a neighboring kingdom to wait till it is safe to travel on to her betrothed. While she is at the neighboring kingdom she realizes that her upbringing was much different than other princesses. She doesn't have the fine things, and doesn't really know how to act properly. She feels that she has abandoned her kingdom and she wishes that she could become a warrior to help save them. While trying to fit in and do the proper princess things she meets an old god that tells her that her destiny is different than the path she is on. The only person who can save her kingdom and all the others is her. She also meets a few interesting people along the way that help her to truly become the warrior princess she is meant to be. 

I really liked Branwen she is a great heroine. She isn't your normal princess she has spunk and she isn't afraid to speak her mind or do the right thing even if no one else thinks it is. She doesn't just jump right into things she actually thinks things through before she acts. It takes her awhile to really believe in herself but by the end she accepts who she is and what she believes her destiny is. She goes through loss and has many sorrows but in the end she comes out a better person because of it. I really loved her character and thought that she had many great qualities. She was easy to like and connect with.

This book was really well written and it had a great plot it just took me a little while to really get into the story. There is a lot of background information you have to learn so at times it seemed to drag for me. The plot was fun and very intriguing. The number one thing that was missing from this book was romance. Now I am a hopeless romantic and I like my books to have a little romance, and this book hinted at a possible romance to come in the future but really there was very little in this book. I'm not saying that all books have to have romance but I felt that this particular book would have benefited with a little more. Overall I did really enjoy this book and I plan to read the rest of the series. I would recommend this to anyone that enjoys a fun action packed fantasy book.
