I didn’t hate this like so many did, I actually really enjoyed it. BUT, it has been 6 years since I read the series so my memory of the specifics is pretty minimal. Reading this novella did make me want to reread the entire series though, and that might make my opinion on this change but I enjoyed it for what it was. I always wondered what happened to everyone ~after~ Allegiant.

Honestly when I heard Veronica was writing a short five-years-later novella in the Divergent series, I was very excited. I loved the three main books and Four as well, so I could not wait for her to write more in this series, even if it would only be a very short story. I even pre-ordered Carve the Mark, something I don't often do with books, so I could get a physical copy of this little book. 

We Can Be Mended is, like I said before, a story that takes place five years after the end of Allegiant. We see lots of our favourite characters again and see what they've been up to for the past five years. It's a very short but sweet story and I really loved being back in this world. I would probably have preferred a longer story though, because this just felt a bit too short, especially near the ending. 

But honestly I do no get the hate this story is getting. (view spoiler)[Sure, Tris would probably not have wanted for Four to end up with Christina, her best friend, because she wanted her to be together with Four forever but we can't have that. So I think she would have been happy for them, because that's the person she is. (hide spoiler)] People can be so negative sometimes, jeez relax people. It's not the end of the world.

I'm gonna pretend that did not happen. I'm going to wake up tomorrow and forget that Insurgent and Allegiant ever existed and Divergent is a standalone and that Tris is alive and Four actually ended up with her and this book is just a dream. 😘😘

Why did I read this and torture my heart even though after looking at all the bad reviews I had sworn that I would not read it because I already hated it?

Don’t ask because I don’t know the answer.

That’s just how I am with books. I need to soak up the hatred firsthand. It’s way more satisfying. 

This book was the right fit for that. Honestly, I don’t even need to switch the spoiler button on because literally everyone already knows what’s happening here. And let me tell you, I AM NOT HAPPY ABOUT IT. AT ALL.

Out of all the people he could date, Christina? Really Roth? Heck, what am I even saying? Why make him date in the first place? Okay I get he has to move on, everyone does, but dating your dead girlfriend’s best friend is NOT HOW YOU DO IT!

You know what, I’m not wasting any more energy on this terrible book. It can go to hell for all I care.

           If you liked the Divergent series, then skip this! It may ruin the whole series for you. I found it to be completely unnecessary and while the writing is still good, the story of this novella is crap! Christina and Four? Really? I don’t know if I can look at the originally trilogy again without thinking of this horrible “ending”

I am so torn over this novella, epilogue, thing. I love that Veronica Roth wrote it because the ending of Allegiant never had me satisfied. On the one hand this epilogue was so good. I loved that Veronica Roth made it so that Tobias and Christina helped each other heal and move on. It shows a maturity because there are a lot of writers out there who would have had Tobias pining over Tris for the rest of his life even though, as Christina points out, they were eighteen and he had his whole life ahead of him. At the same time the whole Christina/Tobias mini romance thing confused me a little bit. It was sweet but left me a little bit lost to be honest, saying that it is really nice to see characters that miss the people they lost but are truly moving on with their lives and are actually living. The bit that I loved the most was the ending paragraph, I thought the writing was so good and so true. For 33 pages, and small ones at that, I would say Veronica Roth did a pretty good job in giving her characters a future.

Unfortunately, this epilogue was spoiled to me - once again - and I was hoping the end to be a lie. Although I trusted once again in Veronica and I didn't get disappointed! 33 pages aren't enough to show how the relationships evolved throughout the 5 years. And for us, readers, the time passed by differently. Obviously for people that hated the end of Allegiant the wasn't much more that Veronica could do. Tris wouldn't be live again so the epilogue would be Tobias moving on.

This is so unlikely to happen but I would love to be released another book talking about the 5 years after Allegiant, so We Can Be Mended would be a synopsis. That book would explain all the little details and how as the time passes by it changes the way Tobias think, fell and acts.
