A Companion Volume to the Medoran Chronicles

I think these stories fell a little flat for me tbh. From memory I remember being so immersed in the world I was lapping up every word but as a reader who has experienced a lot more and who is much more particular with the content I consume, I was let down by these books. Don't get me wrong, Jordan's story is absolutely gut-wrenchingly disturbing, and Bear's was just as traumatic. For me the problem lied in D.C's story. Compared to the boys, all she really suffered from was a bought of childhood bullying that transformed into her character development. I get these stories all had to fit within a certain timeline and coincide with Alex's main storyline, i just would've loved a bit more plot - mostly from D.C's story - and a bit less world building, considering by this stage the reader is four books into the series.

Didn't like the narrators quite as much for these three novellas, and god was D.C's novella boring and repetitive! Jordan and Bear's stories definitely redeemed this.

Like I’ve said before, I’m not one to read novellas. But I can admit that this was an important book to read as we gain a deeper insight into the lives of Alex’s best friends [D.C, Jordan and Bear]. However that didn’t stop me from speed reading the book so I could get back to the main story [Alex’s].

I didn’t cry while reading this book [which is surprising] but boy did it have a lot of heartbreak and grief! The most hard hitting for me was Jordan’s story as he tries to piece together his life after being released from Aven. The scene where he opens up to D.C is absolutely devastating as we learn more truths about his brother’s death. But it was beautiful to see the relationship between D.C and Jordan blossom 🌸 I’m not going to lie but Bear’s story wasn’t my favourite. It was definitely hard to read his reaction to his father’s death but prior to this it wasn’t the most in-depth story as compared to D.C’s and Jordan’s story.
