Weight Expectations

Weight Expectations

Rian Thompson thought she joined the gym to get healthy. Little did she know she was about to add hundred and ninety pounds of swoonworthy abdominal muscles and arrogance to her life. Every day in Rians’s life follows a predictable pattern, and she wouldn’t have it any other way. She’s got a nice job, a nice place to live, and a nice family – even if they are a little wedding-zilla-ish at the moment. She doesn’t need anything spectacular to be happy. She just needs to get healthy – mentally, physically. . . and maybe spiritually if that happens. But she’ll settle for two out of three until her sister finally gets hitched. Carlos Davies thought his life was perfect. Little did he know it was about to be turned upside down by a woman who is not his type. In Carlos’s mind, his life is damn near perfect. He’s got a great job, a great place to live, and a great stash of pick up lines that always work. It has occurred to him that maybe no one actually takes him all that seriously. But with these bulging biceps and thick, dark hair, does that even matter since he’s never sleeping alone? Welcome to Weight Expectations, where great—and unexpected—things happen. 'Weight Expectations' is a full-length contemporary romantic comedy, can be read as a standalone, and is book #1 in the Cipher Office series, Knitting in the City World, Penny Reid Book Universe.

I really want to like this book, but somehow I can't bring myself to it. Carlos is not a Hero that I want for the heroine and he didn't even treat her properly. The plot itself is good but somehow there are parts that not as good as I expected.

I was already done and over this the first 1/4 of reading. The concept left much to be desire, the characters fell flat and I found myself zoning out more times that I could count due to the lackluster plot, so needless to say, this fell in the dropped graveyard.

overall it was not a bad book. I liked that it represented a female character with morbid obesity and not just overweight, and I also liked that the main male character was hispanic. But my main problem was that the 50% of the book was really boring : the characters see each other once only in the first half, which is not a lot for a romance book. Then is this first half Rian chapters are only about what she eats and what she is doing at the gym in too many details. And carlos chapters are only him thinking that he is obsessed with Rian but she is not her type at any point. This first half made the rest of the book hard to finish even though it was not bad. The character's story is cute, they have a cute chemistry but the beginning really drags the book down to me.
