Welcome to the Dark House

Welcome to the Dark House

What's your worst nightmare? For Ivy Jensen, it's the eyes of a killer that haunt her nights. For Parker Bradley, it's bloodthirsty sea serpents that slither in his dreams. And for seven essay contestants, it's their worst nightmares that win them an exclusive, behind-the-scenes look at director Justin Blake's latest, confidential project. Ivy doesn't even like scary movies, but she's ready to face her real-world fears. Parker's sympathetic words and perfect smile help keep her spirits up. . . at least for now. Not everyone is so charming, though. Horror-film fanatic Garth Vader wants to stir up trouble. It's bad enough he has to stay in the middle of nowhere with this group-the girl who locks herself in her room; the know-it-all roommate; "Mister Sensitive"; and the one who's too cheery for her own good. Someone has to make things interesting. Except, things are already a little weird. The hostess is a serial-killer look-alike, the dream-stealing Nightmare Elf is lurking about, and the seventh member of the group is missing. By the time Ivy and Parker realize what's really at stake, it's too late to wake up and run.

Find this review and others like it on https://aravenclawlibraryx.wordpress.... tw: suicide, self harm, murder, abandonment, child death I consider myself a lover of horror. Okay, let’s be honest. I am obsessed with horror. I watch hundreds of horror let’s plays. I have seen almost every horror movie on Netflix and Hulu. But one media I haven’t consumed in the horror genre is books. I’m not entirely sure why, but I’m hoping to change that. Reading Welcome to the Dark House was a very creepy but exciting experience. Because I’ve consumed so much horror, I kind of knew what to expect in terms of what was going to happen to the characters but it didn’t lessen my enjoyment of the book. I still had an absolute blast with this book and it kept me hooked until the very end. Speaking of characters, there were definitely a lot. 6 (six) in total. Ivy had the most amount of page time as the story largely revolved around her and her past. I enjoyed her character. She was smart but honestly, I don't really remember her too much. The one character I do remember is Garth because of how unlikable he was. He was an asshole for no reason and was a big bully, constantly making fun of others especially Ivy. I hated when the chapters were about him. I skimmed them quickly so I wouldn’t have to deal with him for too long. I also appreciated that each character had very different personalities, which helped to keep all their stories straight. I don’t want to give too much away so I’ll end the review here. This book is best experienced blindly. It’s a creepy book, reminiscent of Saw (which is one of the few horror movies I refuse to see because I don’t handle gore well. The most gore I can handle is Texas Chainsaw Massacre) but a bit more gentle. Kind of. Anyway. Do yourself a favor and check this book out.
