Utterly unnecessary.

You actually can't suck venom out. Why does this keep popping up in media? It's disinformation and I'd expected better research based on the first book.

The beginning feels largely redundant and basically East all over again. If we wanted that we'd go and read East. It was better. 

It reads as if the author took the characters from East and threw them into a contrived rather than crafted plot. It doesn't come about as a result of the first book; it just happens. Because it needed to in order to sell another book.

Just shy of 3/4 in West shifted and became more of it's own thing which I'll admit was nice, but too little too late. And it still felt disconnected from East--especially because Rose is so dumb in this!

 I found West to be a throwaway 10-years-later-sequel-nobody-actually-asked-for that taints the first that worked perfectly as a standalone.

From the moment that I first read Rose and Charles' story, I was completely enamored with it, and this sequel doesn't fall short from the first book at all! This was super enjoyable, I absolutely loved this continuation, and I have no complaints other than that the ending seemed a bit rushed to me, especially with at long last pushing Neddy and Sib to get married and to have Sib reveal her past, as well as the final "showdown" with the Troll Queen feeling quite lackluster. The way these events were executed didn't seem right to me, however this still doesn't take away from the story as a whole. A thousand times over, read this!
