I read this book for the first time in 7th grade and really loved it. I still really like it. Will it be on my mind for the next month? No, but it was still really enjoyable. Probably one of my favorite reads in middle school. The plot twists are immaculate and I wish I could read it for the first time again. I recommend this book for literally anyone. There is talk of death, Murder but nothing gruesome.

In the book, When, Maddie has an amazing gift; she is able to see the date that people will die on their foreheads. Maddie's mother, who is an alcoholic, has her do readings for money. When a mother comes asking Maddie about her child that is suffering from leukemia, Maddie sees that she will live a long life, but her healthy brother will die in a week. When the brother is murdered on the day predicted, the FBI starts looking at Maddie as a possible serial killer. From then on, more and more clues point toward Maddie and her best friend, Stubby. In order to prove their innocence, Maddie and her uncle try to figure out who the actual killer might be.

This is a very suspenseful story with lots of drama and action that keep the pages turning quickly. A very interesting read.

What worked for me in this book:

- easy and fast to read
- fun mystery (though I figured out the ending halfway through)
- interesting concept
- it made me cry, so I guess I had an emotion.

What didn't work for me in this book:

- too much exposition: at one point the main character describes being attacked after the fact. I think the book would have been more thrilling had the writing been more immersive
- flat, boring characters. honeslty, the only reason I care about them at all was because their situations were so dire (literaly life or death stuff), because if not, none of the characters have stood out as anything special.
- absolutely no diversity or positivity about it.

Overall:

- if you're in need of a fast, easy to read thriller that won't get you too scared but still entertain for a couple of hours, sure. maybe borrow this one.

I really like the concept/plot of this book. But for some reason, I just had a rly hard time picking it up. The writing was pretty awkward and if you read it aloud it would sound super weird. But I liked the ending and the overall idea. So I guess I would recommend it. Also, there was a lot of minor conflicts that were introduced randomly through out the story that got forgotten about until the very end, which was very rushed
