I didn’t understand a God who would take away the one person who loved me best, in such a brutal way. I didn’t understand a God who would allow those evil men to do those horrible things to us Colored folks. 

i didn’t expect this book to have such heavy religious content so some parts irked me because i am not a religious person. but i relate to opal about her questions to faith. i feel like this is quiet an important read to be aware of racism and its history, it’s so sad to think about what colored people have gone thru the centuries. the story is very tragic :(
