The twist in this books threw me for a LOOP. Which I guess twists are supposed to make you go ‘huh’...but I’m not sure this one did it in the way we needed. It took me a minute to get into this one, but once I got into it I was really intrigued and couldn’t wait for what the twist was gonna be. We got hot outta nowhere with that one, and then we’re just expected to move in so quickly from it. I needed some time to process and then felt like o had wasted my time on this slow, slow burning book. I think the twist needed a twist. I was still expecting more after the reveal and was never really satisfied. 3/5 for me, it was just good, I just could’ve done with a better/different ending.

I love Mary Kubica, she is definitely one of my top authors and I will read anything she writes. However for me this is my least favourite book from her, and that is mainly because of the ending.

When the Lights Go Out is told from two different perspectives, you follow Jessie's in the present and you also follow her mother's story, Eden, which is told from the past.
I loved reading from these two characters, especially Eden, who wanted nothing more in life than being a mother. 

For me I would have given this book 4 stars if it wasn't for the ending, which I was extremely disappointed in. The whole story I felt like was building up to this big reveal, I think there were other possibilities how this could of ended.

However I do love Mary Kubica's writing and this will not stop me from reading any future books.

Holy moly I was not ready for the ending of this book. It threw me honestly for a huge loop. This book is about Jessie who having recently lost her mother is preparing to move on with her life by renting an apartment and applying for college. But when the college tuition aid office calls and informs her that her social security number is registered to a deceased person Jessie’s whole life gets thrown apart. Thanks to grief and suffering from insomnia Jessie begins to see and hear things and she can no longer tell the difference between what’s she imagining and what’s happening in real life. 
The book also tells Eden’s story which occurred twenty years earlier and more than two hundred miles away. Little does Jessie know that Eden’s split second decision all those years ago brings Jessie to where she is now. 

I have loved every novel written by the amazing Mary Kubica and this one just jumped to the top of my favorites. The mystery behind everything and the feelings will leave you guessing and no one will be prepared for what happens.
