y'all....this was not good lol 

the plot had so so so much promise it like actually hurts to see the author not even utilize the material because it could have been SO good. but it just turned into the typical insta love, murky plot and sex ridden book that is everywhere on KU. 

zeke.....made no sense to me, his mission, his new plan for raven, and the entire execution of it. I would have loved to see dean commit and just have Zeke follow through with the origin plan of making her fall in love and then betraying her once she returned to reales. it would have made the entire plot better, and the enemies to lovers trope so much more enriched but instead it just didn't make ANY sense, like logically. I'm also like ???? at people's reactions to Zeke bc to me, he feels just as awful and abusive to raven as the other men in her life. 

raven...I loved the idea of her character. having the three different powers again held so much promise but the execution was awful. she is written as an adult, but acts like a child. she also did a complete 180 character wise after like 4 days with Zeke. I'm just not a fan of insta love so maybe it wouldn't have been so bad if it wasn't so quick but she was just such a weak character, despite being written as some badass. she just doesn't act like a queen at all either and none of her behaviors in public feel realistic to me among royalty. 

cade....I liked him in the beginning, until the author decided to change his character as a plot device for her audience to love Zeke instead. honestly, I didn't necessarily view him as grooming her. I feel that he was just as manipulated as she was when he was a child, so I don't really see him as the big bad at first, then naturally, the author turned him into someone we kinda don't like bc *Zeke* the sex between cade and raven is so uncomfortable and it begins to feel less like a love triangle and more like she's just cheating on both. the way she literally hops back and forth from fucking them and then gets jealous if they fuck anyone else is soooooooooooooo weird to me. 

I was going to try giving the second book a chance, but after reading reviews, I'm definitely not continuing.

A dark romantasy with a character driven plot, yes please. This is the story of Raven working on finding herself and understanding her purpose in order to protect her kingdom. She has to grow up rather quickly in order to take over these immense responsibilities, which she was not equip for at such a young age. The romance was pretty quick, although I am not a fan of instalove, it didnt stop me from continuing my read and enjoying Raven's journey.

The world is beautifully weaved together, but like mentioned above, this is definitely immersed with the character dynamics and relationships. My absolutely fav dynamic was definitely Cade and Raven, I am a sucker for friends to lovers trope and honestly I loved their interaction more than Zeke's. Maybe because I feel like Cade understands Raven more although they have this constant back and forth as friends that they are.

I am looking forward to see where this story is heading! Can't wait to see the plot evolve even more in book 2.

Despite its size, A KINGDOM OF FLAME AND FURY is a very quick and steamy read, perfect for readers of fantasy romance that burns very hot very often! The plot counts on a brewing rebellion, an interesting take on magic (elemental magic and shape shifting in particular) and a great political drama unfolding in the background, which are some of my favorite elements in a compelling fantasy read. I really enjoyed the way the author wove it together while also expanding on the mystery of Raven’s past little by little. I did have some suspicions about where the story was going, but many of the twists took me completely by surprise!

At its heart, however, the plot is only a frame. A Kingdom of Flame and Fury is a character driven story, and the relationships and interactions make up most of it—especially the romantic drama. The endgame couple is pretty clear from early on, but there is a love triangle that made me question who I am as a person, which is a compliment to the author’s character development! Individually, all three characters are very layered and morally gray—my favorite kind!—which made it all the more fun when the triangle began to shape up. The triangle counts on some of my favorite tropes: insta-lust and fated lovers for Zeke and Raven, and friends-to-lovers for Raven and Cade. I was very intrigued by both, but unfortunately for me, one man held my interest more than the other…and it wasn’t the one that had Raven in a spell. While I did enjoy Raven and Zeke’s interactions, the transition from lust to love happened a bit too quickly, and it didn’t fully convince me. On the other hand, there’s a lot of history between Raven and Cade, which brings with it years of pining and angst. And that, my friends, hit me hard. I couldn’t help but root for him, no matter how hard Raven tried to convince me otherwise, and in spite of a slightly too convenient twist.

Overall, this was a very enjoyable read, and I believe the best is yet to come! Can’t wait to see the plot thicken in the next one.
