5 Stars “You were supposed to protect me from the evils of the world, not become one of them.” Well, I have definitely found my next book series I'm going to binge read!! Fucking fantastic! I couldn't put it down. I feel like I have just scratched the surface of this story and these characters, and I'm so unbelievably excited to read more! Really unique to anything I've read in a little while and that makes it stand out in mind. Also, this is a perfect example of an interesting plot, secondary characters, and romance. There is so much strength to be found in stories like this with characters like Brin who go against everything they've been taught to believe and realize they deserve happiness and freedom. What's fascinating to me about books that take place in cultish settings is seeing that internal struggle and following those characters as they take back the control they never had over their lives. Who doesn't love a good rebellion moment in books? That for me is so damn addictive and rewarding as a reader because rarely do I find books that give me that kind of character journey and this one did that! Really it ticks off so most of my boxes for what I would consider an unputdownable read. Frankly, I'm even wasting valuable reading time typing this, but I needed to get some of my feelings and love out first<3 On to book 2!! I can't wait and I hope we get a lot more of Aspen's story too because I love her character too!!

Although I absolutely loved the concept of this book, I felt that some areas could have been expanded. Porter's recovery to his addiction was rather glossed over and more importantly, I wanted the full account of Burt's death. How was it accomplished??? Also, I wish the epilogue not only addressed Brinley, but Aspen and Rebecca as well.....unless they will get their own books?? One can hope can't they??
