I shouldn't be surprised that ended up really liking this story because I don't think there's been an Adrienne Wilder book I haven't liked. Survival books are always tricky for me I'm intrigued by them but at the same time have a hard time with the brutal side that usually goes along with having to stay alive. This book grabs your attention right from the start with a plane crash where everyone but our main character August doesn't make it, and follows by a bear coming through and ripping through the remains. 

Thankfully, for August another person is there to save him because he is injured and in no place to save himself. Also, August is a model used to the finer things in life ever since he moved out of his home and couldn't make it in the wild. Keegan the man who rescues August has been living in the wilds of Alaska for a long time, and due to some really horrible events in his life is forced into hiding. He has not had much contact with people but feels like he will be responsible if something happens to August and takes it upon himself to take care of him. 

Over time they develop a friendship with attraction on both sides that spills over with passion and later becomes a beautiful relationship. This book knows when to slow down and take time with the characters, and when to speed up and fill you with suspense. We also have a very lovable adopted wolf pup called Daisy that became to me just as important as seeing August and Keegan happiness. The three of them together became a family and I fell in love with their dynamic. My only complaint is just more of a personal thing with the hunters coming in illegally and massacring so many animals. It fit the story and felt true to what might actually happen but it made me a bit unsettled. This book has a bit of everything it's quite the journey through love and survival through and I'm happy I read it and meant August, Keegan, and Daisy
