i've just read half of this in one sitting and it is absolutely not for me. not only does it lack the emotional depth i look for in poetry but it was also annoyingly repetitive. it felt like gill came up with a few positive affirmations and then just rearranged the words and called them separate poems.

Nikita Gill is one of my favorite poets. Her work continues to make me see myself in a different light. Gorgeous writing, beautiful stories. It was difficult to read because of where I am in my life right now, but it was necessary.

but gosh this book had me taking NOTES on what i didn't like

(and if you want to know how many poems end in an affirmation-like pep-talk in second person to the reader: 17/124. that's 14%. 14% of poems end in some variation of "you go girl!" and boy howdy that is just not to my taste)

ETA: this is my 30th finished book this year (on march 30, appropriately)! time to readjust my reading goal, i suppose

Wild Embers isn't outstanding poetry. It's a bit simplistic for my liking, but its messages and stories make me not care all that much. This is a book about inner power, self-care, and surviving. Unlike some of the other recent poetry books on these topics, Gill's words, while immature, show a lot of potential for improvement. She plays with styles and doesn't rely on flippant two-line structures. Nor is her focus on just the everyday pitfalls of life. Her stories are about abuse and resilience. About feminism and raising strong children. I look forward to reading more of her work as she grows.

I love this poetry book! I've been following Nikita Gill's work on social media for some time now, and I bought the book on a whim one day when I saw it was discounted in the bookstore I worked at and holy crap, I'm so glad I did!! The poems are beautiful, I truly enjoy reading through them every once in a while. Ghost Story and Burning are definitely the absolute favorites that speak to me deeply. But I am also so very enamored with every single poem with space and galaxy symbolism: they're such a lovely read, and they give you a feeling that you are holding an infinity within yourself, which envokes a special kind of sensibility in me.

I've read several of Nikita's poems on websites and loved them so much I had to purchase one of her works. While this was good, the subject of the poetry wasn't quite what I was looking for. There are several poems towards the end that touch on Greek Mythology goddesses, and they were wonderful! I think I'll enjoy her other works more and will continue reading her poems!

loved two or three maaaybe 4 poems out of the first 90 pieces or so….which isn’t that great but we move. last 10% got me though, just heartbreak tings or whateva. so 2.5 stars but bump it to 3 bc she got me at the end lol. also could’ve done without the girl boss rewrite of the disney princesses and goddesses….cinderella didn’t care abt being a venture capitalist

I always get so emotional when I read Nikita Gill's poems. I can't wait for her next collection. This is probably my favourite from this collection:
  Remember what you must do
when they undervalue you,
when they think
your softness is your weakness,
when they treat your kindness
like it is their advantage.

You awaken
every dragon,
every wolf,
every monster
that sleeps inside of you
and you remind them
what hell looks like
when it wears the skin
of a gentle human.

Words rarely make me cry. These words did. In a good way. In a "this resonates with me on a deep, deep level" kind of way.

I love how lyrical Nikita Gill's poetry is and how she combines religion, science, and fantasy into such a comforting and beautiful canvas. I highly recommend any of Nakita Gill's poetry including Wild Embers which focuses a lot of inner trauma and how different kinds of trauma people experience and the process of healing from them.

4,5 - there were a few beautiful heartwrenching poems and I loved that collection in general. But I liked it less then fierce fairytales. Both are pretty similar and use the same motives to convey the same massages. 
So if you loved her over books, I would definitly recommend this one or if you just want some inspiring and motivating poetry you found the right place.

I have a feeling that if I read this before Fierce Fairytales, I would have liked it more.

It was still good and has a lot of positive messages to it. I definitely still plan on reading everything Nikita Gill puts out.

I enjoyed this book much more than ones similar to it. It felt more like poems about empowerment than poems about over coming self loathing or a painful past like the other books. The same themes were a little annoying (I get it. We are stars and oceans.) and some of the poems felt exactly the same but just worded differently. I'm just being picky... as a whole it was great. :)

Absolutely breath taking. Nikita's work is so raw and passionate but written in a beautiful way. Reading this book made me self reflect, cry, and remind myself to be strong. These poems kept the theme of the sky with constellations and the Earth. She used beautiful metaphors to create imagery within each of her poems.

 “I hope you tell her bedtime stories where the princess isn’t a princess but a knight and she’s going to war with dragons all by herself. I hope you tell her stories where the princess rescues her father’s kingdom from impeding doom. I hope you tell her stories where girls save themselves from anything. And no towers and monsters and dragons and kings can ever stop them from doing what they want to do.” 

This was my first time reading something by Nikita Gill.
After hearing so many great things about her poetry collections I decided to finally give it a go and let me tell you, it did not disappoint.
I just finished it, but I know I want to read every book she has ever written and any future books she might publish.

These poems were really empowering. They touched me enough to make me want to start a fire just with my pain and scars. I really liked it!
