Richard achieves similar success in conquering the woman he chooses to marry. He carves a way to the throne through assassination and executions. Richard III

Read this for a class, probably my least favorite Shakespeare play I've read so far.

Lots of death but besides that it was boring and I did care for it much.

2.5 stars overall

Treacherous, power-hungry, untempered by moral restraint, and embittered by physical deformity, Richard, the younger brother of King Edward IV, is ablaze with ambition to take England’s throne. Richard III, Shakespeare’s long chronicle of Richard’s machinations to be king, is a tale of murder upon murder. He gains the throne, but only briefly. In a terrible dream, the ghosts of his victims visit the now-despised monarch to foretell his demise. Richard's death in battle the next day concludes his reign of evil, ushering in at last a new and hopeful era of peace for England.

In The Tragedy of King Richard III, Shakespeare chronicles the rise and fall of one of history s most repellent, and the theater s most mesmerizing, figures."

Richard III by William Shakespeare Richard III is a history play by William Shakespeare, believed to have been written in approximately 1591. The play is an unflattering depiction of the short reign of Richard III of England. While generally classified as a history, as grouped in the First Folio, the play is sometimes called a tragedy (as in the first quarto). It picks up the story from Henry VI, Part 3 and concludes the historical series that stretches back to Richard II.

'Now is the winter of our discontent. Made glorious summer by this sun of York' As the dust settles on England after bloody civil war, the bitter hunchback Richard, brother of the king, is secretly plotting to seize the throne. Charming and duplicitous, powerfully eloquent and viciously cruel, he is prepared to go to any lengths to achieve his goal. Shakespeare's final drama of the Wars of the Roses cycle shows a man who, in his skilful manipulation of events and people, is a chilling incarnation of the temptations of power in a land shocked by war. 'Exciting, funny and violent.' Ian McKellen General Editor Stanley Wells Edited by E. A. J. Honigmann Introduction by Michael Taylor
