His hostage is the second book in the Valetti Crime Family series, and in this one, we follow Vince and Elle's story. We meet Vince in the first book, and he's the one that will eventually take over as boss for the family for his since Dom just wants to stay behind the scenes as the accountant. Elle is a bookworm. She's not sure what she wants to do with her life, but she's working on her doctorate when she's forced to move home since her mother used her name to get a house loan that she can't afford. She ends up going to the Valetti family restaurant to get out of the house and study, which is how she meets Vince. However, she accidentally sees something she's not supposed to see, and that causes the family to kidnap her until they can ensure she can't remember what she saw. Things spiral out of control because Vince falls in love with her, ending up together. But they had a lot to get past since she didn't know he was a part of this crime family. I think we get a little more of the mafia side in this book than in the first one, but I wish there was more of the crime side. I love how Elle stands up for herself, for the most part. She's not afraid to talk back, and she doesn't just let them kidnap her. You can read these books out of order, but I think it makes a little bit more sense to read them in order because you do meet the other characters from time to time or check in with past couples. But overall, I don't think it would really affect the story much to read them out of order. I will say Dirty Dom does explain this world pretty well. I can't wait to buy more books in this series. I want to get all of the Discreet series, and it's a new obsession for me.

She does it again with book 2. The tug a war in this book between Vince and Elle is intense. Elle is your normal but not so normal college student. Her mother has screwed up her life by using her name to get a house and loans for crazy boyfriends that she keeps falling for and she is a drunk. Vince is the underboss of the Valetti Crime Family. Elle goes into the Valetti's restaurant just so she can get one peace and quiet to study when she spots Vince and whoo. Well they have a quickie (sorta) in the back office and Elle sees something that she should not have seen and the Rule is NO WITNESSES. Well Vince has already fallen for Elle so now he has to hope she forgets or he has to protect her with his life. I am not going to tell you the whole story, you have to read it. But the intensity is real in this book because Vince is fighting for Elle's life.
