Totally emotional rollercoaster. Lily White made me feel stuff for people that had done BAD THINGS that I didn't want to feel damn her, but the ending was such a let down. What on earth happened to agency? And also the consequences for doing bad things even when out of your control? Maurice was a victim of his own mind as well as other factors, but the ending just ruined him for me. 

I did at one point think this was going to take a hardcore BDSM route, at which point it would have been a very firm "see ya" from me, but although it's obvious that was part of the sexual story between the players, thankfully we didn't much more details than an eyeful of those shenanigans.

And apart from the ending, another major peeve for me was the age gap. Personally, I have a strong dislike for stories where the female is almost half the age of the male (19/34) and usually don't read them. Had I known about that before I picked this up, I wouldn't have, but the story of this book is a thrill ride so I'll let it go. I also felt some discomfort at the extreme nature of the employer-employee trope used here, but it is a large part of the plot so I'll let that go too. But mainly, I didn't want to feel empathy for rich people who carried out and planned to carry out horrible deeds against and took pleasure in much of it... and I did, which in a way made me resent the author for the fantastic piece of manipulation she carried out there... Vincent was a compelling voice even whilst at times being incredibly arrogant and utterly hateful, but at the end of the day, he made what he considered the best descision for the one he loved.
