I cannot believe i first bought this book because it was my old crush’s idol and did not see any red flag in him at the time lmao. Anyways, as a now nearly 20 years old woman with an unhealthy relationship with alcohol and crippling anxiety and depression and oh god this book did not make me feel better

can’t decide between 2.5 or 3 ⭐️. Some of it was was great, as when he talked about depression and loneliness. However, other parts were very misogynistic or just rambling. I did still enjoy the good parts :)

True Bukowski. You read and you weep and it all just makes sense. Amazing book.

2.5 Poetry is meant to sound beautiful and always inspiring, but this collection is neither beautiful nor inspiring... The title of the book is what got me. Honest. Bukowski's alcoholic who had a history with women, that's what's being told through the poems! At some point it got repetitive and boring, I'd literally leave it for three or four days then come back to it. I'm trying not to judge and say that i hate bukowski and his style of writing. So as soon as possible i'll read some of his other works and see how it goes! anyways, can't deny the fact that i have some favorites. lol. Here and there i'd find some good verses which made this whole book worth reading! - beasts bounding through time >> - putrefaction. - drive through hell. -January. - no help for that.

This is the first Bukowski book I have ever read and I actually found out about this book when reading another called Beautiful Creatures. This is a very different poetry book I've read in comparison to anything else. There's something gritty and real about it and I think it's because it's very personal. I enjoyed it but I won't be picking it up again anytime soon!
