I think I was too hyped up on The Good Son to appreciate this much. It was an interesting book with some good plot points, but twists were obvious - were they even twists to be honest?! - and it didn’t come close to the amazing experience of The Good Son. It didn’t seem believable at times and some things seemed super duper convenient. Worth a read if you want to crack on with some Korean literature, but pick up The Good Son instead if you have a choice!

So at first, I was miffed that there was so much groundwork being put down. However, once the real building began, just gripping. This story contains a severe psychopath, a washed out sort of baseball player, his wife the naggy shrew and their sickly son. Let's not forget diver/aspiring writer, who in my opinion is the "hero" of the events that happen before and after. This was very entertaining and at times emotionally intense especially in regards to the two children that are at the center of such tragic and brutal events. Definitely a page turner, before you know it, 20 pages have gone by and you're wondering who cooked the dinner that's in front of you. Also, this is an excellent translation, not that I'm an expert. Brace yourself for cringes, gory bits and just creepy things abounding throughout the entire work.
