I used to watch the anime a long time ago and now, after reading the manga, my love is renewed towards this world of ancient Chinese mythology of the Four Gods. It's a great fantasy manga series.

This one's fairly in the middle for me at 3 stars. This is my second read through of the series, as I didn't have a goodreads account the first time I read through it. The art is good, the concept is interesting. The only failing is that the characters have no real depth yet in this first book aside from Miaka having different opinions about which school to go to than her mother, which is probably the most relatable thing in this manga. Obviously, I know it gets deeper and the characters get more interesting than just potential love interests and love adversaries, but I hadn't realized how shallow this first one was. I remember it being fun when I was in my teens though! And seriously, that art is super pretty.

The art style is pretty. Cute story that’s very reminiscent of Chinese historical romances that I love. This was a buddy read with Nat for our podcast so if she’s good with reading another volume I would be too.
