Translucid

Translucid Dragonfire Station

Zen DiPietro2016
What if you woke up knowing how to do your job, but not your own name? What if you had to rely on other people to tell you who you were? What if you thought they were wrong? Eme Fallon is the security chief of Dragonfire Station, and does a damn good job of it. That's where her competence ends. Outside of work, she has a wife she doesn't know, a captain who seems to hate her, and a lot of questions that don't add up. Without a past, all she has is the present, and she'll stop at nothing to ensure she has a future."

I received a copy of Translucid from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. What would you do if you woke up with absolutely no memories of your past? That's what happens to Em Fallon, who wakes up in an unfamiliar medical room after her shuttle supposedly malfunctions. As she begins to investigate the accident, Em quickly realizes she has a target on her back. As Em fights for her memories and her very life, a story of intrigue and corruption begins to unfold. I really enjoyed this book! There were so many awesome things about Translucid. First of all, DIVERSITY!!!! I mean, there's a pansexual main character, and a wonderful wlw relationship that we get to see pretty much right away. Best of all, these things are treated as absolutely no big deal. These facts alone earns the book a star in my book. But, on top of that, all of the characters are delightful and well developed. I absolutely loved Em and felt so connected to her. The book itself is also really well written. The pacing was a little jumpy in spots, but aside from that I was really impressed. I pretty much always understood exactly what was going on, which I think was a little difficult to pull off since the main character herself had no idea what was happening in the beginning. To sum it up, I would HIGHLY recommend Translucid. It's a fantastic book and I'm so excited to see where the story goes from here!
