The she-witch feels far too much. I struggle to hear my own thoughts from the vigor of her erratic emotions. I am surprised her head hasn't combusted with all of the things she feels.

Power starts to flood my mind, pumping rage into every corner of my body—rage that it dared harm her.

"Die," I snarl. My darkness shudders through the beast's system, and it disintegrates into a pile of ash.

"Stay with me. I forbid you from dying on me, little moon."

Dropping down next to me, he places the folded coat in front of him, and he gently pulls me into the space between his legs. His hands move with the utmost care, positioning and angling me so his coat sits comfortably beneath me. And slowly, he leans me back onto his solid chest, and I welcome the reprieve from the sharp edges of the tree.

"May women make thrones from the severed heads of men."

One thing has become undeniably clear to me: I will never be able to stay away from her. She is a light so bright that her smile can silence even the most violent voices inside of me. And yet I could spend another lifetime walking in her path, but I will never become worthy of her.

Whatever she says, I will do. Because she has quickly become my greatest weakness.
