The gods were nature, the night sky and the winter season and wildfires, and rot. The gods were forces, love and cruelty and dreams - but Caro found that people were forces, too, and thought, perhaps like a heretic, that she had seen Divinity worn into the edges of those she had attached a fondness to, and that these gods were so much more startling than all the others because, simply, they were close.

No one was meant to be on earth, but sex with men was supposedly fun so people kept showing up anyway...

Besides, our dear Iccadora Alice Sickle preferred being with herself, with her books and their characters with all of their thoughts cracked open and bare against a page. Perhaps that's what makes her such a delightful creature  wanting nothing to do with the likes of us.
