This is the second book in the series, but it can be read separately. The only thing in common is the fact that Jared is one of the Navy Seals that worked with Drew Castle, the protagonist of the previous book and that makes a small appearance here too. Jared Sutter and Cassie Bronson are neighbors and good friends. But lately Cassie has realized that she wants more… Only that could mean the end of the friendship between them and is that a risk worth taking? Cassie is older, which sometimes leaves her self-conscious, and she’s been through a bad experience with her ex-husband which has led her to believe that a long term relationship may never happen for her… Jared also has more that friendship feelings for Cassie. The problem is that, despite his reputation as a stud, Jared has a secret… Something that would never cross the mind of those that know him. But maybe Cassie really is the right woman to finally make him go for it. There is no mystery or suspense in this novella. In fact, the narrative arc left unsolved in the previous novella isn't even mentioned in this one. I suppose it will be resumed in one of the next ones. Fall Hard is all about the development of the relationship between Jared and Cassie and about how, together, they solve their struggles and limitations in the pursuit of their happy ending. I really liked the story and the protagonists. Jared is a refreshing character, different from any other I have ever read. Cassie’s experience was also interesting to read, and I imagine it’s something that happens in real life more often than it should. I liked the fact that the author doesn't just tell the story of the romance between the characters, but she gives it a depth and a back story so rich and full of life experience that is remarkable considering it’s a novella with little over 100 pages. The only thing missing, I thought, and considering the story takes place during Christmas, was a little more Christmas spirit, because it could really have happened during any time of the year.
