Storygraph → Literal

Bring your Storygraph library to Literal

Export your library as CSV from Storygraph, upload it to Literal, and your books, ratings, reviews and read dates land on the matching shelves.

What gets imported

Storygraph's CSV export is comprehensive. Literal preserves the parts that map to a tracker — books, ratings, reviews, dates and shelves.

  • Books on every shelf

Read, currently reading, to-read, and DNF — all four states map cleanly to Literal's Finished, Reading, Want, and Dropped.

  • Star ratings

Storygraph's 0.25-step ratings round to Literal's 1–5 scale. No data lost beyond the rounding step itself.

  • Written reviews

Full review text imported and attached to the same book on Literal.

  • Read dates

Date started and date finished preserved per book.

  • Tags as shelves

Storygraph tags become Literal shelves with the same names — your "spicy" and "cozy" tags survive the move.

  • No data left behind

Anything Literal can't match is shown in a list at the end so you can search and add it manually.

How it works

  1. 1

Export your Storygraph library as CSV

On Storygraph, go to Settings → Export and request a CSV export of your full library. You\'ll get a download link by email when it\'s ready (usually within a few minutes).
  2. 2

Create a Literal account if you don't have one

Email and password, no credit card.
  3. 3

    Upload the CSV

Go to the import page and drag in the CSV. Literal kicks off the import and shows you the progress.
  4. 4

    Review unmatched books

When the import finishes, Literal lists any books that couldn't be matched in our catalogue. You can search Literal directly to add the few stragglers.

Frequently asked questions

How do I export my Storygraph data?
On Storygraph: Settings → Export → request a CSV export. Storygraph emails you a download link when it's ready.
Is there a size limit?
For libraries up to 10,000 books the import works without issue. Larger libraries may take longer to process.
Will my Storygraph reviews be preserved word-for-word?
Yes. The full text is imported and attached to the same book.
What happens to Storygraph's pace, mood and content warning metadata?
These are Storygraph-specific concepts. Literal doesn't track them in structured form, so they aren't imported. Your reviews and ratings — the parts that translate — come over fully.
Can I keep using Storygraph too?
Yes. Nothing is written back to Storygraph. Lots of people run Literal as their daily tracker and keep Storygraph as a secondary log.
Is the import free?
Yes. Free to use, no usage limit on imports.
