Tuesdays with Morrie

An Old Man, a Young Man and Life's Greatest Lesson

This is a book given to me by my best friend for my 17th b'day, and god it was a good book. I got so much knowledge from this read and there are some philosophies that I can apply to my own life. I did feel a bit sad towards the end as I had a daily habit of reading this book a few pages a day, but overall this was a really good book.

Maybe it was a grandparent, or a teacher, or a colleague. Someone older, patient and wise, who understood you when you were young and searching, helped you see the world as a more profound place, gave you sound advice to help you make your way through it.

For Mitch Albom, that person was Morrie Schwartz, his college professor from nearly twenty years ago.

Maybe, like Mitch, you lost track of this mentor as you made your way, and the insights faded, and the world seemed colder. Wouldn't you like to see that person again, ask the bigger questions that still haunt you, receive wisdom for your busy life today the way you once did when you were younger?

Mitch Albom had that second chance. He rediscovered Morrie in the last months of the older man's life. Knowing he was dying, Morrie visited with Mitch in his study every Tuesday, just as they used to back in college. Their rekindled relationship turned into one final "class": lessons in how to live.

An Old Man, a Young Man, and Life's Greatest Lesson

Finished this wonderful, emotionally heavy, and deeply informative book about life. It is a must read and something to learn from, especially from the point of view of a dying person. The book teaches many important lessons things that are so common yet often ignored in our day to day lives. We keep living in this cruel world thinking that someone will love us no matter what, but the truth is, we have to start loving people ourselves. One of Morrie’s famous lines, “Love each other or die,” is so simple, yet incredibly impactful. Another line that stayed with me is, “When you are in your bed, you are dead.” A must-read. I will definitely come back to this book whenever I feel lost in my life.

“When you learn how to die, you learn how to live.”

Makes you think hard about how you’re living your life and the choices you make, for your own good.

What an incredibly moving story. I implore everyone to read this, and take acknowledgement of the wisdom within this beautiful memoir of an amazing old man into their lives, as I will now try to do.

Reading this felt like both a gentle hug and a loud wake-up call. I think it is one of the most important books of recent generations, and will continue to transcend generations of readers, and non-readers, alike.

It is stories like this change people — that help them. This book has power. I will not forget it.

Very cute read. But the ideas we’re not super crazy and original so it didn’t really change my perception of anything

I will cherish this book and bring it everywhere I go, as a constant reminder of what I should be focusing on in life ;(.

Dear Morrie, i've read this incredible book about you and i've loved it with my entire soul. But a question still bugs me. "When I give my time, when i can make someone smile after they were feeling sad, it's as close to healthy as i feel." You talk about devoting yourself into constant giving and loving finding purpose and meaning in that, I really do believe in that too. I also believe in the inherent good inside of people. But, when do I know to stop? When I know people are only using my kindness for their own good, having power over my vulnerability and guilt. Do I keep giving, and burden myself, or stop giving and still burden myself with guilt?

Bener aja setelah selesai, aku masih pengen "ngobrol" sama Morrie. Tapi tetep aja aku benerbener hold this boook soooo clooosee to my little heart, so meaningful to me in every way still :) My favorite read so far. 10/10
