I cried. What can I say? You really don’t expect it I don’t care if the title gives it away you just don’t realize it’s actually coming. In less than 24 hours of getting to know the characters and bond with them you really do start thinking they are too good for the title to be actually real. So you don’t believe it. You decide to ignore the fact that they don’t have a day more, that tomorrow won’t come for them. And it’s so beautiful. Beautifully heartbreaking. It eats at you deep knowing it is going to come, death, but you ignore it completely as you watch two boys at the end of their worlds, falling in love, with death itself. It hurts to read their thoughts and emotions and seeing how they did love each other, for the little time they had, death brought them together, and inevitably, did them part.

You know how the title of the book is so clear yet you still hope for a plot twist? And when you reach few chapters before the ending, you wish they both survived at the end. Then it is the emptiness after you read the ending of this book that will haunt you, it lingers for a moment.

IT IS A SAD BOOK, AN ADMIRABLE SAD BOOK. Not gonna make you cry "cry", but it surely leaves you feel sad.

I liked it. This book made me cry. I wish it was longer because i found it too fast paced. I think the author could've given more details on more stuff, but we can only dream.

twenty dollars down the drain, oh well. this book serves to me both reminder and first sign to always take tiktok book recommendations with a grain of salt and another. i think it’s a little unfair and blinded for me to hate on it so much judging by why exactly it is that makes it so personally, horribly memorable. how whenever this book flits to my mind its a lesson on why underestimating or overestimating anything is—well, it depends on context but it’s not always the best of outcomes, regardless of how many substack letters tell me to overestimate everything otherwise. with those thoughts and feelings out of the way, i believe that so many aspects of the book could’ve been handled more efficiently, with expressed attachment, like how loving is different from love, like how the verb of love would make us strive to write and read better than to amass it all on the noun. the main characters’ romantic relationship. the characters. the death. the ending. the plot. was centered on a great concept and interesting cast that was eventually wasted because the author threw too many things, countless aspects done that just lacks. but that’s just discrediting the fact that, if only this was intended to be it’s own multi-book series instead of one three seventy paged book, if only the flesh was thicker, it would have done itself some justice. every time a new chapter came and an interesting character was introduced it only came to naught when they all became merely background. actually, it felt like every character became ‘background’ in this story, if you know what i mean. as if they were always intended for this one purpose in the story but were soon stripped, swallowed, muddled into the background, of everything that made them feel purposeful to the reader because they were written by an author unknowing in how to fulfill their narrative purpose without sacrificing too much. too much of what? likability? reader emotional attachment? this didn’t seem to me like a book that disregarded its reader and chose to be its own being considering that it’s also disregarded its own beings. in fact, it seemed to me like it wanted to appeal yet was unaware of how to be adhesive. that’s all, maybe. i’m just being horrible, sorry. doesn’t change the fact that the main couple feels utterly forced.

The contrast of the book ONE DIES AT THE END (im not shure about the name) from Adam Silvera and this book is significant and it ruined my whole reading experience please if you can read this book firts and then continue with any other one or you’ll struggle to finish this book

I'm not going to add a review but I got about 2-3.5 hours into the audiobook and I just had to return it. It felt like the characters just kept repeating the same things. I heard good things about this book so maybe i needed to get further but after reading that long and the characters just repeating "oh no I'm going to die today" without doing anything to live just was a bit boring.

I think the concept of the book was interesting but it was a bit too slow for my liking.

“I would’ve loved you if we had more time.” The plot of "They Both Die at the End" revolves around the fleeting lives of Mateo and Rufus, and their short-lived (pun intended) love story which unfolds over the course of a few hours. Despite the brevity of their time together, their connection feels deep and profound. Adam Silvera expertly captures their chemistry and the sense that they have known each other for much longer. Mateo and Rufus love and the tragic inevitability of their fate left me yearning for more time for them, highlighting the cruel irony of their circumstances. 

Mateo, one of the protagonists, is absolutely my personal favorite. He's portrayed as an astonishingly sweet and kind-hearted boy. I couldn't help but feel a deep connection to him, wanting to protect him and encourage him to seize the opportunities he's going to miss with death knocking on his door. His vulnerability and longing for experiences resonated deeply with me. 

Rufus was a polar opposite to Mateo in terms of personality. He brought a different dynamic to the story. While I found his speech patterns, particularly his frequent use of "mad," very repetitive and even annoying at times, I appreciated the contrast it provided to his tough exterior. Despite their differences, Mateo and Rufus complemented each other beautifully. They created a love story that was both tender and bittersweet. 

Aimee's presence in the story added a sense of danger for Rufus because of Peck. But also because she broke his heart. Her character felt like a ticking time bomb — I feel like she was way more aggressive than Rufus was letting on. 

Peck was a character I disliked most, rightfully so. I wanted him hto get a call from Death-Cast next. His actions and behavior left me frustrated, and I was dying for consequences to catch up with him. 

The Plutos, particularly Malcolm, brought a touch of sweetness to the narrative. Their endearing nature and the role they played in Rufus and Mateo's story added a sense of warmth amidst the impending tragedy.

Ich hab die Bedeutung hinter dem Buch verstanden, ich fand sie auch echt süß. Als sie gestorben sind, musste ich tatsächlich bisschen weinen, weil es so herzzerreißend war. Ich empfehle das Buch an Beziehungen, die meistens nicht die Zeit mit deren Partner*in schätzen. Das ist ein recht lehrreiches Buch für‘s Leben, der Titel; Am Ende sterben wir sowieso, sagt schon einiges aus.

(2.5) I am DNFing this as I can not finish this book. It is very very boring with the conversations unnatural and often times cringy. It had lovely messages and a nice concept but failed to convince me and make it into an emotional rollercoaster. Oops!

Nahlédnout do posledního dne dvou náhodných kluků byl větší zážitek, než jsem si myslela. Bojácný Mateo se vzchopí a v poslední den jde ven s Rufusem, člověkem, kterého zrovna potkal na seznamce pro ztracence. Rufus musí utéct od pěstounské rodiny a začít odznovu. I když jen na den.
Oba na konci zemřou mě překvapila. Mile překvapila. Nečekala jsem nic extra, jen nějakou nudnou knížku o dvou chlapcích. Ale ve skutečnosti jsem si uvědomila docela dost věcí. Že nikdy nevíme, kdy umřeme, a že strach z neznáma je zbytečný. Musíme žít naplno, jako kdyby každý den byl náš poslední. Smrt prostě jednou přijde, a my to musíme pochopit a Smrti za to předem odpustit.
Byl to moc hezký příběh, i když to v podstatě byl jen obyčejný den.

4,5*/5*, romantická linka mi tam přišla taková.. nechci říct nucená, ale obešla bych se bez ní. Konec byl celkem otevřený, to mě docela zklamalo. Ale jinak se mi knížka líbila a hlavně se četla vážně rychle.
