Chasing four seasons, almost as an advertisement for the Interrail. Still very similar to The Wall by Haushofer.

- THIS IS BOOK 2 IN A SERIES. SPOILERS AHEAD <3

maybe i’ll stay here. maybe i’m like the romans. maybe i built it myself.

- book 1 depicts tara as someone still connected to humanity and the world around her, but in the middle of losing that connection. there is hope, but it is fading away. she has love in her life and people who care, but they're becoming strangers. in this second installment, we see tara now completely detached, alienated from her own existence, and chasing after anything that can keep her in denial of what she’s lost

- i’ve read a couple reviews that described this as a peaceful look into the quiet moments of life (i really like this one from 

 on goodreads), and i kind of disagree with that sentiment. while she is surrounding herself with quiet peace, the moment she’s confronted with any kind of conflict you see her lose herself for a moment, and then desperately reach out for comfort again. this is not a peaceful experience, this is a portrait of someone on the brink of insanity clinging to whatever she can find that will help avert her attention to the loss of her own livelihood

- while i found this an adequate addition to tara’s identity, i do find it hard to rate this sequel on its own. the first book was, in my opinion, a perfectly contained story with an ending that worked independent of what a sequel might look towards. book ii, on the other hand, constantly reminds you that this is a small piece of a larger puzzle... or one moment of struggle in a larger conflict. i don’t have very much experience with sequels... i read a lot of standalone novels... so idk whether or not this actually succeeds in what it wants to achieve
