Man was this dry. Like take a sip of water after every chapter it was so dry kind of dry.
I am reading these in order chronologically and maybe that’s the error here. Like maybe I should have done it in order published because I am not getting the hype about this series and I read fantasy like it’s going to get taken away if I don’t read all of it. I bet this is a great book of you know everyone and read the whole series and came back to this as a fun prequel and it’s like “what if he loses his swords!” But he has only had them for like 5 short stories at this point so like I am like “I dunno. What?”
But no seriously let’s go over all the court proceedings and all the details of the legal shit in painstaking detail again. What is this? Dune?
Just like the last book it is wall-to-wall dudes, dudes fighting, dudes fighting shirtless, etc. The women who are capable or who fight seem to be limited to magic welders and they also seem to use their sexiness as a weapon as often or more, which is again explained away by reminding us that sexiness is relevant and integral to witchy magic, usually as a precursor to a very descriptive paragraph about someone being beguiled by a pair of breasts. Which is totally not misogynistic because as it was stated before, the magic is tied to the hotness. Conveniently. I digress.
Okay so I get into the series proper with the next one so wow me Witcher. Let’s see you actually fight some monsters or like save some kids or whatever it is, because this was not it.

I think this one was harder to rate, but for now it's a 3 stars from me

This book has a content warning for sexism. I don't know what happened with this book but I just registered NOTHING from this book. I read every word in it but somehow don't remember a single event. I have a vague understanding of what happened in this book but it's too vague to actually tell you something about it. I don't know how this happened. I've been bored before while reading Witcher books but never to a point where I don't register what's happening. But yeah, basically I don't really know what compelled Andrzej Sapkowski to write this book. It seems a bit pointless. If he so desperately wanted to write a spin-off novel for this series there were so many more topics/people I would have found more interesting. Not to say I don't like Geralt, I love him, but this story just didn't feel like it needed to be told, in my opinion. A thing I liked about this book is that the perspectives from other characters felt more balanced to the main story than in the main series. As that was one of my biggest complaints with the main series I felt the need to mention that here. But that's all I've really got to say.

I want more!
