Speaking Like a Spanish Cow: Cultural Errors in Translation

Die Studie untersucht im Wesentlichen zwei Hauptaspekte: Zum einen wird die deutsche Rezeptionsgeschichte der Werke Lion Feuchtwangers in den beiden deutschen Teilstaaten von 1945 bis 1989 und im wiedervereinigten Deutschland bis zum gegenwärtigen Zeitpunkt aus literaturhistorischer sowie aus rezeptionsästhetischer Sicht betrachtet und kritisch aufgearbeitet. Dabei wird insbesondere der Kontext des speziell jüdischen Motivationsmoments im Schaffen des Schriftstellers berücksichtigt. Zum anderen wird die Stellung der deutschsprachigen Exilliteratur (1933-1945) im speziellen Bildungskontext der Sekundarstufe II-Ausbildung der gymnasialen Oberstufe in Ost- und Westdeutschland vor und nach der Wende am Beispiel Feuchtwangers kritisch analysiert. Den Abschluss der Untersuchung bilden Vorschläge zur konkreten Einsetzbarkeit von Feuchtwanger-Romanen im Bildungskontext sowie eine generelle Standortbestimmung von Exilliteratur in der bildungspolitischen Kultur Deutschlands.
