Le recueil Songs of a Syrian Lover (1912) révèle ce goût pour l’Orient, et s’inscrit plus particulièrement dans le mouvement des English Rubáiyát : les Quatrains d’Omar Khayyâm devenus très populaires grâce à la traduction d’Edward FitzGerald influencèrent en effet de nombreux auteurs. Mais loin des chansons bachiques, les poèmes de Scollard se rapprochent davantage du Cantique des cantiques par la célébration de la bien-aimée et de l’amour sublime qui lui est porté.
