«أيها العزيز الآتي من بلاد بعيدة /ضع يدك في يدي/ واحضني بذراعيك/ ولتكن حبيبي الوحيد.. هذه أغنية ألفتها الفتاة (مارا) لتلفت نظر الصياد إليها، وحين لم يفعل استعانت بالشيطان الذي صنع لها قوساً بأوتار وقال لها: «أعزفي وحسب، فسوف تجر الأنغام محبوبك إليك».. وجاء الصياد، وأمر الشيطان الحبيبين: "أنا ربكما فلتعبداني".. فرفضا، فخطفهما بعيداً.. بقي الكمان في الغابة حتى التقطه غجري فقير.. «وحين يعزف هذا الغجري.. يضحك الناس أو يبكون بحسب إرادته!». تجيب هذه الحكاية، مثل غيرها من حكايات الغجر الشعبية، عن أسئلة في علم الأجناس (الإثنولوجيا)، والفيلولوجيا (فقه اللغة)، والكرانولوجيا (دراسة أشكال الجماجم البشرية، إضافة إلى التاريخ والموسيقى والحفريات، والكثير من ضروب المعرفة.
