Despite their rich tradition, the Carmina Anacreontea transmitted in the Palatine Anthology have received little scholarly attention. This neglect is linked to questions concerning their authenticity. Long read as poems by the ancient lyricist Anacreon, they are now regarded instead as imitations of Anacreontic lyricism. This volume presents the latest findings on the language, poetology, tradition, and reception of this lyrical collection.

Archaic and Classical Greek Epigram

Millennium transcends boundaries - between epochs and regions, and between disciplines. Millennium-Studien also accepts manuscripts on Latin, Greek, and Oriental cultures. In addition to offering a forum for monographs and edited collections on diverse topics, Millennium-Studien publishes commentaries and editions. The journal primary accepts publications in German and English, but also considers submissions in French, Italian, and Spanish. Quintus Smyrnaeus

The “Events after Homer”, described by Quintus Smyrnaeus in the third century AD in his Greek epic Posthomerica, are an attempt to bridge the gap between the Iliad and the Odyssey , and to combine the various scattered reports of the battle for Troy into a single tale: the fate of Achilles, Ajax, Paris and the Amazon Penthesileia, the intervention of Neoptolemos and the story from the Trojan horse to the destruction of the city. The volume presented here summarizes the results of the first international conference on Quintus Smyrnaeus.

Auch der vorliegende Band ist ein Grenzganger, denn er unternimmt es, das moderne Phanomen der literarischen Phantastik zu Texten der griechisch-romischen Antike in Beziehung zu setzen. 17 Beitrage aus verschiedenen Bereichen der Altertumswissenschaften, der Neueren Philologien und der Theologie beleuchten Entstehungsbedingungen, Traditionslinien und Grenzbereiche des Phantastischen; sie verweisen aber auch auf charakteristische Unterschiede im Umgang mit Motiven und Erzahlstrukturen des Phantastischen in Antike und Neuzeit.
