James doesn't know why Regulus hates him. Regulus doesn't know why James likes him. They never expect to find out, but when they do, it changes everything. *** "Hey!" James blurts out, alarmed, and maybe he does have a thing for people who are mean to him, because it's so clear to him like this, with Regulus trying to close yet another door, and James only feeling the urge to get inside grow larger with each push against his weight—yes, yes, this is something. It's a game, and it's not. It's a game, and James doesn't want to win; he wants to keep playing and level up forever. "Reg, wait, just—" "No visitors today," Regulus says, then gives a weak, deadpan cough. "I'm afraid I'm feeling a bit under the weather, so for your own sake—" "Cough in my mouth for all I care," James says, rolling his eyes. "Just let me in." "You're disgusting," Regulus mutters on the other side of the door, though his grip goes slack, so James proceeds to trip inside and nearly land on his face. James rights himself just in time and beams at him.
