Ngugi was chair of the Department of Literature at the University of Nairobi from 1972 to 1977. He left Kenya in 1982 and taught at various universities in the United States before he became professor of comparative literature and performance studies at New York University in 1992. Read for university. Excellently written story with characters with extremely different experiences. It's a good and informative book, would recommend.

Though at first difficult to read, I soon became absorbed in this book that is far outside my usual literature interests. The story is beautifully told, and while the constant jumps in perspective and time are confusing at times, they give the style a greater story-telling quality. Had I more time I might write a more extensive review, but suffice to say: I heartily recommend this book.
