First good book of the year! For me, the difference between four or five stars is to introduce a new literary style or something daring in addition to a good story and good writing. This book gets four stars because it is not innovative enough for me for the story telling. But it is a great story, told perfectly. A Canadian story too! I loved imagining living in the town of Solace and comparing it with small towns in Canada and good families with unfortunate stories.

not much really happens and i can recall very little about the events of this book. i don’t consider it a bad book, just not particularly memorable

Definitely an enjoyable read. I binged it as an audiobook when I couldn't focus from a sinus headache so things may have been missed along the way, lol. But I liked the characterization and the story was easy to follow. I could easily see this being a B level movie you find on the weekend.

As per usual, Mary Lawson writes a great book. I loved the use of alternating points of view, but I also REALLY love the use of dual time lines. As a Canadian who lived in Guelph, but also northeastern Ontario, it's even better, as I feel like I have an idea in my head of exactly what these places look like, because I feel like I've been there myself. It makes it an even more satisfying read.
