People think happiness is an emotional response facilitated by a set of circumstances, as opposed to a choice and shift of perception/awareness.

They are not stuck in the ilusion that "happiness" is a sustained state of joy. They allow themselves time to process everything they are experiencing. They allow themselves to exist in their natural state. In that non-resistance, they find contentment.

Accomplishing goals is not success. How much you expand in the process is. 

In a sense, the notion that thoughts create reality is more than just a nice idea; it's also a fact of evolution.

this book could've been half the pages it is. the author is very repetitive. chapters i enjoyed and learned from: 5, 10, 20, 21, 26, 33, 34, 40, 42, 57, 60, 61, 62, 65, 66, 67, 68, 69, 101

I really truly understand this book and it’s message but the reason it’s not 5 stars is as usual with self help books there’s a slightly passive aggressive tone, a shit tonne of repetition, and personal bias and borderline judgement. Mostly, I agree with the authors points, but the tone of voice wasn’t my favourite

A lot of contradictions and questionnable advise such as - quit your job even if you wont like your new job (something like that ). I mean.... euh.... 
Also i was honestly expeting essays but the whole book looks like groceries list for a happy life.
Also i didnt finish it and best on the comments i saved myaelf couple of hours

The first 40% was decent, not life changing and then the rest are just repetitive bullet point lists essentially. 

I felt like this isn’t really a self help book but more so a grandiose buzz feed article.

Redundant. 
Not as reflective as I thought it would be. There were a few tidbits that were interesting -- but the essay was always cut off before it got to the good/introspective parts.

Would not recommend (unless you're feeling really lost in life maybe this can help just reorient you but even then...meh)

I'm a little disappointed in the book. It started promisingly, the first essays were thought-provoking, inspiring and showed new perspectives, but the rest of the book is just a string of the same thoughts and lists over and over again. In between, there was something interesting, but I actually started skipping whole passages from the middle on, because by then I had already read them five times.

Ik heb dit boek geluisterd in plaats van gelezen (voor het eerst, kom erachter dat het niet echt mijn ding is). Het is zo’n boek die je op het juiste moment moet lezen. Ik heb er veel van geleerd, het waren geen dingen die ik niet wist, maar die opnieuw aan mij verteld moesten worden om me er bewust van te zijn. Ik vind het jammer dat ik het heb geluisterd, want ik had veel willen markeren voor een later moment. Het boek heeft wel een groot nadeel en dat is dat er heel veel herhaling in voorkomt. Verder prima boek, maar misschien niet voor iedereen.

Well-written, Self-optimising book, but you have to be in the right mood to read those lil essays.

I didn't read through the whole thing, that I can say. I don't know if I am going to finish it or not. These 'essays' ​weren't really essays. They are more like the articles you can find on the internet nowadays.

It started nicely. I really liked some phrases; they offered me another perspective on some stuff. The first few 'essays' were pretty good. After that, I couldn't stay that focused because there were many concepts (very much said) that kept repeating themselves.

So, I decided to not spend a day more on this and DNF it. 
The first couple of essays make you look forward to the rest of the book until you start to notice it's just list after list of things emotional (strong/clever/independent/wise ... pick one) people know to do. It gets super repetitive and still sometimes contradictory. 
There are good essays, true, but some of them just made my toenails curl in disgust. Invalidating people's trauma, emotions and life situation by essays that will tell you to just be grateful for the things that have not gone to shit yet in your life is simply not my favourite read. 

I don't know if the essays in the second half of the book are less pretentious but unfortunately I will not stick around, devote moments of my day to continue reading and find out.
