I loved this charming book. It has a fantastic array of characters. It made me angry at times, it made me laugh and cry. Essentially it is about a girl's relationship with the large, eccentric family of her Professor. It is a coming of age story that is set in London, Sussex, Oxford and Rome and was originally published in the early 1980s. It is lewd at times and quite earthy but if you don't mind that, it is beautifully written. It is described by The Times Literary Supplement as "A sort of Bohemian Brideshead Revisited" and as you can see I read it almost in one sitting.
