I admit to buying and reading the book without reading a single blurb about the book, not even the one included with the book. I knew I was going to read it and I didn't care to know what it was about. That ended up being very effective because after the start of a rather humdrum sister feeling out of sort and needing her own time to heal post return from Los Lagos, everything is literally and figuratively violently turned upside down. 3 stars | Eh, i'm conflicted about this book. I wanted to like this book. I liked the story (or the idea of it), but at some point it was just 'too much'. The book started out very promising, but a couple of chapters in and I was bored. The plot took a weird turn (I was in for witches, not all the other cliché creatures you can imagine) and the characters were inconsistent; where were Alex and Rose's personalities? The writing wasn't as good as in the first one. I'm hoping this was just a case of second book in the series syndrome and that the next one will be better because I really like Rose and I can't wait to see what happens to her when she goes into the kingdom of Adas.

And the ending -__- Really?

Also, Rishi was barely in this book and Nova, ♥.

Librarian: We probably won't be ordering this one, Not because it isn't good, but because we don't have the first one. I might try to get the first one added to the order, but without one, we won't get two.
Reader: I picked this one up because eI absolutely adored Labyrinth Lost, and I hoped Bruja Born would be similar. In this it exceeded my expectations. The plot line was a lot deeper than the last book, and the world felt more detailed. I will say that it felt more like a companion novel then a sequel, but that probably had more to do with the perspective shift then the content.

This series just keeps getting better and better! I was a little worried when I first started because the beginning felt a bit slow. But once things took off, they reeeeaalllllyy took off! I loved that we got to dove deeper into the supernatural world of Brooklyn and learn more about these awesome characters. Lula, Alex, and Rose are such powerhouses. I just want to be best buddies with them and go on all sorts of crazy adventures!

I loved Labyrinth Lost, and I loved Bruja Born. I could definitely relate more to Lula, I think, than I ever did with Alex. Losing someone, learning to live with unexpected tragedies and coming to terms with death are things that ressonate with me lately. I can't wait to read more.

I really liked this book, I had no idea it was a sequel which means it is a great stand alone book as well. I fell in love with all the characters. I definitely recommend this book!
