E si conclude anche la Ruinous Love Trilogy, sebbene l’epilogo ci faccia sperare almeno in uno spin-off.

Ero in dubbio tra le 4 e le 5 stelle perché alcune cose non mi hanno convinto fino in fondo, però Fionn e Rose si sono rivelati la mia coppia preferita nella serie, per cui, bando alle ciance, e 5 stelle senza se e senza ma.

La Rose di Scythe & Sparrow è un personaggio diverso da quello dei cameo nei primi due volumi: ci era stata presentata come assolutamente sopra le righe, e di fatti mantiene un lato quirky, ma è anche più solare e estroversa, e ben si amalgama con Fionn-cuore-di-panna.

È un’assāssinā pasticciona, e se non fosse stato per il bel dottor Kane, la sua carriera come giustiziera avrebbe avuto davvero vita breve (in tutti i sensi).

Se Sloane è la più professionale e preparata, Lark la più caotica, nonostante alla fine riesca sempre a cavarsela, Rose è una dilettante imbranata piena di entusiasmo, e alla fine fa tenerezza. Ci prova, ma in un modo o nell’altro combina un disastro.

Fionn è un personaggio complesso, diviso tra quello che è e quello che vorrebbe essere, e, al contrario dei suoi fratelli, deve ancora scendere a patti con il suo lato oscuro. È anche il tipo che passa le serate davanti alla tv dedicandosi all’uncinetto, e come nemesi ha un procione che riesce sempre a sgattaiolare nel suo ambulatorio. Insomma, è adorabile

Cosa non mi ha convinto: più dei due terzi del libro ripercorrono una storia di cui avevamo già visto degli sprazzi nei due volumi precedenti; ok, viene approfondita, ma sappiamo cosa accadrà, per cui perdiamo parte della suspense. In pratica, abbiamo giusto un 20% o anche meno che ci mostra qualcosa di nuovo. Avrei voluto anche un po’ di quotidianità semplice nel primo periodo di convivenza forzata, e invece mi sono dovuta accontentare di qualche accenno, dato che la capacità della signorina Evans di mettersi nei guai non ci ha lasciato molto tempo libero.

Se con Leather & Lark avevo sofferto per le troppe somiglianze con Butcher & Blackbird, qui ci sono sicuramente più differenze nella caratterizzazione dei personaggi, e il volume ha una sua individualità.

Certo, i fratelli Kane confermano il debole per le eliminatrici seriali di uomini cattivi; che volete farci, ce l’avranno nel DNA!

Complessivamente ho notato una crescita in positivo da un volume all’altro, e se Butcher & Blackbird poteva contare soprattutto sull’effetto novità, successivamente abbiamo avuto personaggi e storie più solide.

Ora non mi resta che aspettare Tourist Season.

This was cute. I like Brynn Weaver’s writing style a lot and while I think was a stronger book than the second one, I still think it meandered a bit. I wasn’t able to predict where the plot went and I did enjoy that, but most of the story felt very low-stakes. The first book is definitely the strongest in the series by a long shot.

the series is great, the overlap between the books is consistent and nice (it’s different and likable). However I didn’t love the plot in this book as much as in the other books.. characters where great and well written. The plot around her kills felt not so thoughtout or something like that. I think more depth and attention could have been spend on those moments. The backstory of finn was also a bit of a guessing game (even in the end), would have liked to see/learm more.

butcher & blackbird was a very strong, fun, and totally original romance. and then every book after that has been basically using book 1’s exact format and shoving a new couple into the equation. and it just gets more and more depressing. this one in particular was dreadful. the time jumps were unrealistic, the dramatic storyline was boring, ugh. i just hate that instead of coming up with completely new ideas, the author tried to force old ones with fresh faced couples. was it fun? a little bit sure. but it was ultimately forgettable.

I was not expecting to like this third book as much as I do. The more i read about each brother, the more they grow on me. Dr Fione was the one that seemed the least interesting, but Brynne subverted my expectations.

This trilogy was like no other. Brynne introduced me to a dark romcom and it forever changed reading for me. Seeing the conclusion to this particular trilogy is sad but I loved every second we got to experience. This will be read again in the future and I’ll be using the tandem that someone else took the time to create, love you to all who made them! While the second and the third book were amazing the first book is still in a league of its own. Fionn and Rose were amazing and honestly Barbara stole the show for me too. And the end with the little teaser?! Yeah, imma need more about that very soon!

This trilogy was like no other. Brynne introduced me to a dark romcom and it forever changed reading for me. rose is so "the archer" x "peace" coded and the way fionn just loves her for who she is GOT ME!! actually in his words he was enchanted by her!!!!

ngl the third act breakup wasn't my favorite. it felt like a cop-out plot point to move the story and rosefionn's relationship along. also it didn't help that i have the memory of a goldfish, so references from the previous books just flew over my head. UGH i wish i reread the previous books before diving into this book especially to better enjoy the ending
