More military/political history than alternative. It’s an insightful read into Italy during the Renaissance but it comes (in my opinion: massively) short on providing an alternative history of the Italian Renaissance. 

It’s still an enjoyable read if you like the time period, which is why it’s not lower rated. BUT its not truly alternative. Since the centre stage is taken by the Italian Wars and the famous families of Italy; Medici, Sforza, Orsini & Borgia.
