A cute tale of a young gal from Central Wisconsin who takes on the responsibility of the family farm but also follows in her brothers' footsteps and tries out for the High School football team. I enjoyed the voice of DJ; felt authentic and age appropriate. Fun, breezy read.

I DNF-ed this book after 14 pages. To be real, this was a bad book from the start. The writing style was terrible. Bad chick-lit kind of book that tries to be relateable and funny but it is just plain stupid. Which would have been FINE. Cause I didn't expect anything else, I just wanted something to relax my eyes on while learning for my exams. But then animal cruelty came along. This silly family had a small cow for 11 years, where the cow was their principal milk source and she gave birth to several baby calves that helped with their money farm. The main character even has the nerve to say she considers the cow to be part of the family. But right on the 14th page, being aware that the cow is old and sick, she calls for a meat dealer to take her with a van and... You know. Make her one last meal. I found this whole deal to be utterly disgusting. DISGUSTING. If she was part of the family, didn't she deserve a decent death with her loved ones?! Instead she was sent away in a dark van with a stranger to kill her. She was sick and was feeling terrible. But I guess she did not deserve better? After all, people will not eat an old sick cow meat so what is the deal? Did they really need to eat her? It may be my own priviliged city girl way of thinking, but I am DISGUSTED and repulsed and I would NEVER read anything from this author EVER.
