Tbh it was a little basic but also after the last book I read I kind of needed that! There were no crazy plot twists but we did get exactly what was expected…Pizza & Murder 💁🏻‍♀️

Enjoyable cozy read for sure! I loved the sibling banter and camaraderie, it added a good laugh throughout the book not to mention made it less serious. I did struggle a bit with the constant reminders of the husband because it didn't add as much to the story or characters as I felt it should when mentioned that often. All in all I will definitely be picking up the second book in the series to see what the sisters are up to next!

Man this was a real letdown. For starters, Chris Cavender is a pen name of Tim Myers, who is also Jessica Beck and I loved the Sinister Sprinkles book that I read by him/her. So I entered this book with high hopes, and they were dashed.

The main love story was really shallow. You could feel him reaching for something deeper and not really hitting the mark. He wanted a hurt woman to slowly accept her freedom after the death of her husband, but he ended up with an icicle of a woman who shoots down would-be suitors because it's "too soon" and then obsesses over younger woman when he finally gets her on a "date." I was agreeing with her when she questioned why he still bothered.

Then there is the mystery, which is in essence a decent mystery, but the way it's presented is somewhere caught between a cozy and something more mainstream. There were more hints to violence than I expected, and it includes the main character being shot at and then almost stabbed/killed at the end. The end itself was super cheesy and really just needed a rewrite. It wasn't a good end and it was so easy to predict that it broke the fourth wall for me.

The characters didn't really develop and the dialogue seems scripted or otherwise flawed. It had its playful moments but they were short-lived and too few. I also felt they were unnecessarily mean and quick to judge.

Overall a big letdown. I'm not sure if Tim Myers is trying to write to make the male pen name work or use it as an excuse to explore more violent murders slowly, but it was definitely not the same as his other work I have read.
