We finished for the sake of finishing, but my kids and I found the pace of this novel to be very slow. It’s a good story and the friendship between Early and “Jackie” is the best part, but we had a hard time sticking with it.

tbh i bought this book cause of the cover the whole constellation stuff got me my attention 
this books follows the journey of jackie, early and pi. even sometimes was hard to me to follow the journey, it was so delightful. this story it’s like a mix of some things i’ve watched:
- over the garden wall (limited series)
- dead poets society
- luca (2021)
- la luna (a pixar short film) 
- stand by me
and btw this book could be easily been written years and years ago

I put off reading this book because I did not enjoy Vanderpool's Newbery winner at all. I am so glad I gave this author another chance. The story of Early and Jackie and their quest on the Appalachian trail was entertaining and engrossing. I listened to the audio book and quickly found myself invested in the characters and fascinated by Early's ability to see texture and color in numbers and the story that he tells as he figures the number pi. Great historical fiction with an easy curriculum tie-in to both Math, Social Studies and Geography.
