Dreamcatcher The Shooting Script
Reviews

Just a criminally underatted King book.

The first half of this book started out strongly with an interesting and classic Stephen King creepy opening, but I'm sad to say that I found myself getting pretty bored about halfway through. By the end, I had 3 chapters plus the epilogue left and I skipped to the last chapter just to speed things up.
There were some really great concepts in here, I especially liked the idea of sort of seeing things through the eyes of the alien Mr. Gray, but in-between those chapters there was just a lot of filler and a heavy focus on Owen and Kurtz, one of whom had no personality, and the other of whom had a personality I just couldn't stand reading about.
This one probably ranks at the bottom of my list of SK books I've read so far.
I think parts of it were great, but I don't think this will be one of his books I ever re-read.

** spoiler alert ** Dreamcatcher by Stephen King A lot of people dislike this King novel, they say it's very similar to others, and you can tell that he had just recovered from an accident before writing the book in long hand. As a man who has written 57 books in total, it's hardly surprising that similar ideas arise. I don't mind when King sticks to what he does best. Writing stories focused on groups of four boys, growing up into men and the surrounding events. Dreamcatcher features a very special character, Duddits. Duddits makes this book, especially his relationship with the four other men. All of their relationships make this book special. The pace of this book was brilliant, it only dimmed when the military arrived. I loved the characters of Henry, Jonesy, Beav and Pete and actually wish we got to read more about Beav and Pete. Overall, a great King book. I can always rely on him for a good story and great characters.

A 31/2 stars actually. Not one of his masterpieces but one I enjoyed thoroughly.

I liked this one! I haven't read very much from King yet so a lot of the recurring themes, if present, are lost on me. I think it reminded me most of A Prayer for Owen Meany, with the jumping from adulthood to childhood and the coming of age scenarios presented. I do think that it could have benefited from being shortened, especially by the end where it would have been nice to feel more cohesive than continual jumping from one thread to the next. Definitely worth a read if you like aliens and coming of age stories.
